EM specialises on recruiting senior finance appointments for Blue-Chip corporates.

“EM Finance” is created as a distinct division within the finance market.

Launch of “EM Financial Services”, a specific brand fulfilling front office roles in Investment Banking and Alternative Asset Managers. 2001 EM launches equity participation scheme offering all employees a stake in the company’s success.

EM is awarded outsourcing agreement by Wal-Mart, the largest company in the world, to acquire talent for roles across all disciplines
2006 EM launch in Dubai to build on existing client relationships in the GCC region.

 EM is acquired by a consortium of private equity investors including Lloyds Development Capital (LDC) to provide synergies to its existing businesses, the Interim Register and Ellis Fairbank.

2007 EM wins the Recruiter Awards Training and Development and Best Executive Search & Selection Firm 2007/2008 at the Recruitment Business Awards.

EM opens offices in Manchester, Edinburgh, and Paris

EM carves itself out from its parent Group and, funded by its founders, becomes an independent business again.

2010 EM builds its interims business providing immediately available professionals for short term assignments.

 EM appoints Carl Thompson (formerly CFO of AIM listed Hexagon Human Capital) as Finance Director.

EM invites Jan Shaw, formerly HR Director of Asda and architect of its growth under Archie Norman, to become non-Exec Chairman.

EM expands its reach to cover roles in Australia and Asia Pac. Including a multi-search campaign for Coles, Australia’s second largest retailer based in Melbourne.

EM announces the appointment of Nigel Milford, a former Director of Michael Page hiring across London HK and Toronto, is to take leadership responsibility for the EM Finance practice.

Karl- Heinz Seul is appointed to lead EM Financial Services’s Risk Analytics & Quants Practice focusing on searches for banking clients across EMEA.

EM appoints Anjam Khan , formerly of Mazars and a leading London search firm to head up Internal Audit Risk and Compliance practice.

EM launches its legal executive search division to focus upon private practice, in-house and ABS clients.

After 3 years leading talent acquisition for ANSA McAL, the Caribbean’s largest business Ena Vieira (formerly head of EM’s Healthcare practice) returns to EM to concentrate on global Search mandates.

Jacqui who joined EM in 2015 having worked for 7 years at Goldman Sachs is appointed Partner, leading global searches across all sectors though particularly food and nutrition, pharma and healthcare.

After several years’ service with EM, Carl, who became a shareholder in the business after its 2009 MBO, now leads EM’s Board Practice. With significant expertise running businesses in both executive and Non-Exec roles himself, he understands board level dynamics first hand and is well positioned to understand what works (and what doesn’t.)

Having worked as a Senior Researcher on retail, FMCG and e-commerce searches both in the UK and internationally, Louise steps up to a new role operating particularly retained searches.

Gemma – who celebrated her 12th anniversary with EM at the end of last Year – has achieved the highest accolade by being consistently promoted every three years. Now on her fourth, she mentioned it was “an honour and a privilege” to be working at EM.

Chris Shaw (fully qualified CIPD) has stepped into the HR practice. Leading the research team, Chris – who formerly worked in-house at Walgreens Alliance Boots, will focus on searches for Chief People Officers and all HR roles that report into them. This is a second string to Chris’s bow: he is also an expert recruiter on Operations roles in retail and FMCG.

EM’s businesses have continued to operate fully during these unprecedented pandemic times.
Having invested in latest remote-working technologies, all EM colleagues have the option to work from home. Searches have been conducted over TEAMs and Zoom and using enhanced questioning techniques, EM’s clients report that very high satisfaction levels remain unchanged from before the pandemic.

The first half-year results have matched the average of the same period over the last 3 years.

EM remains on track, positive and very much “Open for business!”

Henry Courtney-Guy steps up to a Partner position for “EM Legal”, EM’s Law search division set up in 2016. Concentrating on Equity and Salary Partners, as well as in-house General Counsel, Henry’s clients are based across the US, UK and EU.

EM’s Tech practice gains further strength with Naomi Drummond joining as Partner. Naomi who has an outstanding reputation hiring for the Regulatory Financial Services, Gambling, e-Commerce markets will focus on C-level and one- below board level roles.

Chris Shaw who has been focussing on HR and People Officer searches has found himself increasingly being invited to lead MD, COO and Commercial Director searches. As a member of EM’s Board practice, he will now focus more on these roles particularly for SME clients.

This year saw EM leading major CEO searches globally, including in the US, Ukraine (pre-invasion), China and India.

With post-pandemic flexible ways of working becoming the norm, EM provides dedicated Talent Acquisition Managers (“TAM’s”), to support peak hiring needs. Highly experienced cross-functional and cross-sector recruiters work on an in-sourced basis with each client to talent map, outreach to targets, assess, select and hire.

Leveraging its international relationships, EM implements its 2023 growth strategy to focus on adjacencies to its sector and functional specialties. As well as the EU, particular markets are in the US, India and Australia, as Britain takes up the new post-Brexit opportunities offered to it.

EM’s board practice enjoys its strongest half-year, with revenues up by 220% on the year before. Searches are global – including for clients in Singapore, Mexico City, and Cape Town, as well as across EMEA and US.

Gemma Hawes who celebrates 18 years with EM this November is offered the very well deserved role of: “Director of Operations”.

EM Legal

Clients include private practice and in-house teams in the UK and Internationally. With a focus on Corporate and Commercial, appointments are at Partner level, particularly within alternative business and self-employed structures.
